Magnetic unit converter
Convert magnetic flux density, field strength, energy product, flux and moment between common units.
Identify the quantity before converting.
Gauss and tesla describe magnetic flux density; oersted and amperes per metre describe magnetic field strength. These quantities cannot be interchanged as units. Remanence and surface field also have different definitions, even when their units match.
Put the parameters in context.
Conversion changes the unit expression, not magnet performance. Confirm requirements against material data, geometry, magnetization and measurement conditions. When sharing a drawing or data sheet, retain original units and limits.
Conversion basis and common relationships
- 1 T = 10000 G = 1000 mT
- 1 Oe = 1000/(4π) A/m ≈ 79.57747155 A/m
- 1 MGOe = 100/(4π) kJ/m³ ≈ 7.957747155 kJ/m³
- 1 Wb = 100000000 Mx
- 1 emu = 0.001 A·m² (magnetic moment)
Uses conventional magnetostatic unit relationships and factors within each quantity. Maximum energy product uses nonnegative values; the other four quantities support signed values. Magnetic moment uses the ampere-square-metre definition; the emu factor applies to magnetic moment. Up to 10 significant digits are displayed, which does not imply measurement accuracy.
