Surface field and pull force are different quantities. A local gauss reading cannot be directly converted into the weight a product will hold. Attachment depends on the magnet, mating object, spacing, magnetic circuit and loading. Field readings can support a review, but they do not replace functional testing in the intended assembly.

Identify the quantity being compared

A surface-field reading is magnetic flux density measured under specified conditions at a location. Probe position, orientation and distance affect its meaning. Pull force instead requires a defined mating object and loading method, such as separation along a specified direction.

Gauss or millitesla describe flux density; newtons describe force. Unit conversion cannot exchange them. Before interpreting a request in kilograms, clarify whether it describes mass or an informal force rating, and how the product is loaded.

One sensing point does not describe an entire attachment

Geometry, thickness and location affect local field values. The mating material, working area and flux path influence the complete interaction. One center reading cannot rank every design across different geometries and assemblies.

Suppose option A has a higher center reading at the agreed position. If option B has a different contact arrangement, steel part or operating gap, the designs still need a common functional boundary. This illustrates a comparison method; it does not declare one shape universally stronger.

Pulling, sliding and opening a lid are different loads

Normal separation, sliding and peeling a cover have different loading relationships. Sliding also depends on contact friction; lid opening depends on where force is applied and the lever arm. A single pull test is not a load rating for every direction.

Describe mounting orientation, center of gravity, vibration, permitted movement and removal. Specify mating metal material, thickness and shape. Include plastic walls or other layers in the final operating spacing.

Use field estimation within its stated scope

The website estimator calculates an idealized axial field for its stated solid geometries and uniform-magnetization model. It does not include a complete mating structure or contact mechanics, and does not calculate product load capacity.

Use it to explore geometry and measuring-distance effects, then validate the function in the actual structure. Rings, multipole parts, assemblies and complex circuits need a suitable separate method; they should not be forced into a solid single-magnet model.

Specify a function that can be checked

For retention, provide the envelope, mating object, minimum and maximum gaps, loading direction and intended action. If field is also required, specify its sensing point and method separately.

An illustrative requirement could be “review separation along the designated direction with final mating parts and gap, and record field at the agreed point.” Agree actual limits and methods for the project. Conditions give a number its useful meaning.
